APRIL IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH..........

Yeah, I know it's still March. Just thought I'd get a jump on things. My son has what they call "Austims Spectrum Disorder", he falls moderate to severe on the spectrum. He started to change at 18 mths old. He stopped playing with toys, he stopped talking and to go any one's house became a nightmare. I flew to Mich. for my sister's graduation and he cried non stop for 2 weeks. His behavioral vomiting and "wake up calls" (where he'd get up at 2 am and stay up) started then too. My lovely barely speaking English HMO fucking quack kept saying "let's wait and see, boys develope slower". He did not get a diagnoses until he was 2 years old. Behavioral vomiting is SO much fun......NOT. If he did not want to go some where or do somthing, he'd puke. So going to the mall or resturants was an adventure. We'd always carry spare clothes and plastic bags to put them in. The worst is when people look at you like you are a horrible parent for dragging around a sick kid. Then there came the feces smearing. We had to install a security camera in his bed room to catch him before he started to take off his diaper and decorate the place.
He started school just for autistic kids right after he turned 2. It has helped a lot to say the least. Pudd'n is now fully potty trained at 9 years and he does not wake up at 2 am as much any more. For the first 7 years of his life, he'd wake up every few hours like an infant. If he'd go back to sleep or not was anyone's guess. We tried everything to get him to sleep in his own room, in his own bed to no avial. So now he sleeps on a twin bed in our room next to ours. The little stinker is starting to weasel his way back on to my side of the bed and I spend most of the nights trying to keep him in his bed. Pudd'n can now say a handful of words and with help he can put a short sentance together. He still does not have an interest in toys. He likes to watch his favorite videos and will some times play with markers, balls and puzzles. He loves to be read to and look through photo albums. Pudd'n cannot read or write and will have to live in some sort of assited care for the rest of his life. He is the greatest joy in my life. He has taught me so much. I've learned more from him in the 9 years that he has been on this earth than the 30 that I lived before I had him.
